What is Epivir?
Generic Epivir (lamivudine) is a synthetic nucleoside analogue, an antiviral medication which prevents the human immunodeficiency virus i.e. HIV cells from multiplying in the body.
Lamivudine’s chemical name is (2R,cis)-4- amino-l-(2-hydroxymethyl-l,3-oxathiolan-5-yl)-(lH)-pyrimidin-2-one. The drug is (-)enantiomer of cytidine, ideoxy analogue and is often called as (-)2′,3′- dideoxy, 3′-thiacytidine. Its molecular formula is C8H11N3O3S and the molecular weight is 229.3.
Lamivudine appears as off-white crystalline solid and has a solubility of nearly 70 mg/ml in water at a temperature of 20°C.
The Epivir tablets and oral solution are meant for oral administration. Each scored 150 mg film-coated Epivir tablet has 150 mg of lamivudine. The drug’s inactive ingredients are magnesium stearate, hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate 80, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol and sodium starch glycolate. One ml of the oral solution has 10 mg lamivudine i.e. 10 mg/ml in aqueous solution. The inactive ingredients are artificial banana and strawberry flavors, methylparaben, citric acid (anhydrous), propylene glycol, sodium citrate (dihydrate), propylparaben and sucrose (200 mg). You can buy epivir online from a web pharmacy selling prescription drugs online at discount prices.
